Tricep Dips are another common exercise that I see being performed incorrectly pretty much every time I go to the gym. If you take any kind of strength class you will probably come across them at some point. They are also perfect for at-home or on-the-road warriors because they require nothing but your sexy bod and a chair or sturdy surface that is off the ground.
Tricep Dips work your….wait for it….tricep muscles. Your triceps are the large muscles on the back of your arm, from your elbow to your shoulder. These muscles are called triceps because the muscle group consists of three heads: the long head, the lateral head and the medial head.
Why do we want to strengthen the back of our arms? The tricep muscle group is responsible for bending and straightening the elbow joint, which is helpful for anyone who isn’t a Barbie or Ken doll. So golfers, tennis players, martini drinkers and those who use this muscle group in a repetative motion can benefit. Having tight triceps also avoids the “flabby underarm look”, which is really only useful if you go skydiving and your chute won’t open, but that is about it.
So enjoy this “How To Do A Tricep Dip” video straight from Fiterature Studios in Kansas City. Remember, beginners start with 3 sets of 15 reps, with your feet flat on the floor, thighs parallel to the ground. Have fun!
