About

When I was a junior in college, I stepped on a scale and was 30 lbs heavier than I had ever been in my life. 30 lbs doesn’t seem like much, I know.  But for someone who’s played sports her entire life and never worried about physical health, it might as well have been a ton. My complexion was awful (I’m talking Jessica Simpson ProActiv BEFORE photos), I was tired all the time and just felt….horrible.

Around the same time, I got a phone call from my sister that my Grandpa’s heart had stopped and he was in the hospital.  It didn’t look good.  He was diabetic and was having complications. This rocked my world. My Grandpa was my best friend and in my mind, indestructible.meg_gpa

Right then and there I promised myself I would exercise, make sensible choices about food and, overall, take better care of my body. Not for a little while or just until I lost weight.  Forever.

Flash forward to today, and I am pretty proud of how far I’ve come.  I’ve learned so much about the human body, made mistakes, accomplished goals, made lifelong friends and pushed myself farther than I ever thought I was capable of.  But the most important thing is that I have changed the way my brain is wired.  Being healthy isn’t something other people do, it is something I do.  It is a part of who I am now.  No backsies.

Fiterature is my place in the world to share what I’ve learned and give back to those who have made a difference in my journey.  I love to laugh, so my one promise is that Fiterature will never takes itself too seriously.  And I hope you don’t, either.
