Hey Ombré, It’s a KC Blogger Meetup!

Earlier this week I attended my first “blogger” event, and it was really fun!  Kansas City Blogger Meetup had a fabulous event planned – a jewelry trunk show and ombre dip dye DIY class (don’t worry, I will tell you what ombre means!).  There were yummy cupcakes by Erin at Pretty, Polished, Perfect and refreshments generously donated by Coke, thanks to the saavyness of Lisa!  Thanks, friends!

We were asked to bring a plain white t-shirt to ombré dip dye.  I had zero idea what that meant, but I am a team player and followed along.  According to RitDye.com, “Ombré is a French word meaning “to shade” and is often used to describe a dip-dye effect given to fabric in which the shades of color graduates from light to dark”. The process was super easy, a little dipping and a little spraying with water and voila!  A fancy new shirt!  (Complete instructions for Ombré Dyeing can be found here.

Carolyn at Notes and Nails brought thrift store jeans that needed a revamp, so she ombréd them in a wine red and they turned out really rad.  She’s so creative, isn’t she?

Someone mentioned ombré dyeing tights, and I thought that was an awesome idea.  How cute are these?

There were XL white tees on hand if anyone wanted to cut them to make scarves and then dip dye them.  I’ve seen this “make a scarf out of an old tee” idea from Pinterest, and was super excited to learn how to do it.  Well, turns out that I am NOT crafty because what was supposed to look like this:

Pretty sure Kristen was hysterically laughing and pointing at me inside her head, but was waaaay too sweet to say anything.  #CraftFAIL.

Next it was time to shop. And shop I did.

I bought home these bright and bangley green bracelets from Melina and Kara at Edit.

IMG_2436PS, Melina and Kara are sisters and they bought each other necklaces from Ngan at eNVe Designs and are wrapping them for Christmas presents.  That’s some self control!! When I buy something new, I have to wear it like, now.

Which is what I did today, with these little numbers from eNVe.  Aren’t these earrings beautiful?

I also bought these fun dangles from Stella and Dot stylist Cortney. They are perfect for a charity masquerade ball on Saturday night and will match the shoes I already own.  IMG_2488

And then I won this trendy little number from eNVe as a door prize!  Loving navy and coral right now.

Andrea was also there with her Darling Lily Blu handmade jewelry.  It was so fun and funky! I’ll definitely think about her designs for my next fun occasion.

Bet you didn’t know I was so fashionable under that mullet, did you?  I’m just full of surprises.  And piss and vinegar, according to some people that shall remain nameless. You know who you are.

The evening was great, and I picked up some quick photography tips from Emily and talked nerd blog jargon with Andrea, Kristen and Carolyn. It was great to be in a room full of gals that speak my language!

Aaaaand, that is the most links I have ever put into one post.  Are you getting carpal tunnel from all the clicking?  No? Then you aren’t clicking.  Do it, because these ladies are talented!

What is your favorite piece of jewelry in your jewelry box? Are you crafty like Martha Stewart or craft-challenged like me?

  1. I did not know what Ombre meant, but those tights are awesome. I’m totally not crafty either, but the results of your t-shirt scarf made me chuckle.

Looks like a fun event. Beautiful jewelry. I have a few friends that sell Stella & Dot and it’s all so pretty.

  2. Ah, those cupcakes look so delicious! Cookies AND cupcakes combined?! I’m in heaven.

Ombre is a very cool idea but I’m pretty sure if I tried it, it would turn into a craftfail too. I’m missing that creative gene. Oh well.

Looks like you had a lot of fun!
