Me Likey Monday 8/26/13

It’s a good morning! I’m getting this week’s Me Likey Monday out a little late today. Uh oh, sounds like somebody’s got a case of the Mondays!

1. Cheer, Cheer for Ol’ Notre Dame: I grew up on ND football. I could draw Touchdown Jesus, I’ve worn The Shirt, and no matter what sport I’m watching, I immediately expect someone to hoist me over their head so I can do pushups after a point is scored. That last one can get awkward with the wrong crowd. ND Football is in my blood. And while I’m not an alum, and I don’t still have the passion for the Irish like I do my Cards, this You Might Be A Fighting Irish Fan If list hit home and made me nostalgic to watch the boys Play Like Champions. To this day, there is no sporting experience that compares to South Bend on game day.

2. Sets on the Beach: We’re baaaaack! It’s a new season of beach volleyball and I am pumped! We took the summer off, because ain’t nobody got time to play in the sand in 104* weather. We’ve got some new players this round, and the bar now sells PBR in cans. I mean, it doesn’t get any better than that, does it?

3. Strange But Good: To the lay person, this recipe for Jicama and Tofu Nachos prolly sounds gnarly. But to the mature totally weird pallet such as mine, it sounds like a mouthful of glitter. Okay, wait. That sounds annoying and uncomfortable. And messy. How about a mouthful of rainbows? Yes, that’s better. If you don’t know what jicama is, Laura gives you the lowdown before the recipe so read on and then go buy some cause it’s good.

4. Free Tomatoes: Speaking of things that are good, did you see my Summer Tomato Pinto Bean Burger from last week? Did you also see that you can enter my giveaway to win a free Summer Grillin’ Kit from Red Gold Tomatoes?  Get to it, why don’tcha? Contest ends Tuesday 8/27 at midnight.

5. I Do, Do You?: Saturday night my coworker Heather got married on top of the Flint Hills Discovery Center. It was a beautiful day, and Heather was so full of life and love. My team had a great time together NOT thinking about work. We also got a lesson in how to eat a cupcake like a man. From a woman. Life lessons, folks.

6. Triple Threat: I’m digging the band Phantogram lately. I don’t know if I like their airy, spacey sound, her haircut or his beard best. Because of this trifecta, they are winners in my book.

7. Yes, I Like It: I’m a runner. Yes, in the snow. Yes, in the heat. Yes, in the morning. Yes, in the rain. Yes, sometimes alone. Yes, I like it. No, it’s not boring (most of the time). Yes, I win every single race ever. Yes, I’m going to eat the entire pizza. Yes, I drink beer. No, I’m not having a seizure – I’m stretching. No, this isn’t Dr. Suess. It’s answers to The 25 Worst Questions To Ask A Runner.

8. Hot Dog Selfies: I think I peed a little when I saw this Hot-Dog Legs Tumblr. I seriously cannot tell which is which. It’s mind blowing.

 9. What Do You Worship?:

On Sunday, my pastor quoted the author David Foster Wallace, and it has stuck with me since. DFW said, “In the day-to-day trenches of adult life, there is actually no such thing as atheism. There is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship.” Then Pastor Bill posed the challenge to us, “If you want to know what you worship, follow the money.” Wow. Doesn’t THAT put things into perspective…it does for me.

Have a great week, sunshines! MLM will be taking Labor Day off, but will be back on the 9th!

What is something REALLY funny you’ve see on the internet this week?

  1. Hmm, I won’t argue with your #1. But the ‘shoe in Columbus comes pretty damn close. I LOVE jicama and PBR. And I may be worshipping Pinot Noir without my knowledge, if your Pastor’s theory is correct. #goBuckeyes
