Me Likey Monday 02/23/15

What I’m eating, listening to, laughing at, sweating through and loving on this week’s Me Likey Monday.

1. My dad lies: A friend shared this video with me, and I cannot stop thinking about it. You never, ever know what the person next to you is going through on any given day, week or month. This MetLife commercial was a great reminder to me to be kinder to one another – for the man standing beside me at the grocery store could be on his last dollar, his last straw.

2. Row, row, row: I have weak lat muscles in my back. I’m not sure how it happened, but it did. My trap muscles are likely taking over and rounding my back. So lately, I have been doing a mix of back exercises and my favorite right now is the Seated Cable Row. It’s a great lat workout (and shoulders, biceps and middle back). It makes me feel strong and tall during and after. Check out the link for Seated Cable Row form, and then do 10-12 slow reps (5 second pull, 5 second return) with heavy weight three times. Make your movements smooth and deliberate. cable-row

3. Don’t be a baby it’s cold outside: In case you missed the SnapChat, you can still run when it’s cold outside. Or snowy. And maybe even a little icy. Really, it’s true. But you need the right layers, so my Top Five List of Winter Running Clothes is your ticket to the big show. And by big show, I mean running outside.

4. These three things: Minimalist Baker always comes through for a great recipe. But this. This put me over the top. Are you ready for this? Chocolate Covered Pretzel Peanut Butter. Let me say that again: Chocolate. Covered. Pretzel. PEANUT. BUTTER. Three ingredients. So much yumminess. I haven’t made it yet because apparently the one thing Trader Joe’s doesn’t sell is pretzels and I’m too lazy to go anywhere else. So who will make this for me and let me have all of it? I mean ALL of it.

5. Be better: Have you heard of The Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz? According to Ruiz, they are the essential steps to “becoming filled with grace, peace, and unconditional love.” I have the agreements posted on my desk at work and in my office at home. I shared them with a friend this week, and thought you’d enjoy them, too!IMG_1568

6. A nice rub down: Whilst food prepping for the week yesterday, I decided to take a tip from my friend Molly and whip up some mason jar salads. Mine consisted of tofu, dried cranberries, roasted sunflower seeds and some luscious green kale. Did you know that after a little massage, kale transforms from being bitter and tough to silky and sweet? I tell no lies. By massaging the leaves, the tough cellulose structure breaks down — wilts, actually. So throw some in a bowl, drizzle with a little olive oil and gives those leaves a good five minute rubdown. Maybe I’m a kaleirdo, (kale + weirdo. get it?) but there is something so therapeutic and soothing about diving into that greenery and oil. Getchu some.

7. Without you near, I am an empty frame: Saturday night I went to the Folk Alliance International Music Fair here in Kansas City – it was incredible! Rooms and rooms of banjo picking, foot stomping, guitar strumming and voices bellowing. My favorite band from the night was the Lonely Heartstring Band from Boston. Their sound is so unique and full of soul – I think they are going to be really successful. Their new album comes out this spring! Boys. If you are reading this. You and your plaid – come back to KC. I beg you.

Enjoy your last week of February, beautiful!

What is the last thing you did for someone in need?

What’s your favorite strength move right now?
