Me Likey Monday 7/7/14

What I’m eating, listening to, laughing at, sweating through and loving on this week’s Me Likey Monday.

1. Walking home with an empenada: Nothing says Happy Independence Day like an emotionless rap about the 4th of July in mom jorts. Well played, Rosa, G. Well played.

2. Cheap eats: Tired of paying $7 for a hot dog at the zoo? (I have no idea if a dog really costs that much at the zoo, and I apologize to all zoos for slandering your good name for the sake of making my point.) Then check out my latest post over at Bargain Babe – On the Go Snacks for Kids Under $2. Most of the are healthy. Some are not. You’ll be fine.

3. Real friends: I recently ran into an old sorority sister (I know. WHAT?!), and instantly felt hot, stressed and self-conscious because in college she was. not. nice. to. me. I was thrown back into the first 29 years of my life, where I adjusted who I was so people would like me. And then I looked to my right and saw my beautiful friend Sara and thought, “I have the most AMAZING group of women in my life. It may have taken 30 years to find them (and me), but it was worth the wait.” And then I felt sad for that sorority sister because she was just as unfriendly as ever, and what a miserable life that would be.

4. Wrapped in clouds: Can we talk about Athleta’s Odyssey Chaturanga Capri’s for a second? They are what it would feel like if your pedicurist wrapped your legs in clouds after massaging them with that honey scrub and orangey smelling lotion. Yea. They are that comfortable. Mine are blue and awesome and don’t show my thong during yoga. Get some.

5. Lake lovin’: I just got home from a week at Da Lake with the fam. There was lots of fishing and eating and sleeping and reading and swimming and laying. And mosquitoes. It was glorious and just what I needed before what will probably turn out to be one of the crazier months of my life. Bring it, July. I’m ready.

6. Just fishin’: As you know, my Grandpa is one of the great influences of my life. I grew up fishing with him, and the memories I have are less about fish and more about the talks – or silence – that happened on his old row boat. When you are a kid, adults are always telling you how to do something differently. But when Grandpa and I had a pole in our hands, it was like a secret club. There were no expectations, no rules … just us.  So it was extremely special that I got to share this special club with Booka and Lil Lil this week. Booka LOVED fishing, and Lil Kathy and I spent a lot of time teaching him. I hope it sticks, and that years later he looks back and realizes we weren’t just fishing.

  1. Darn you for making me tear up while getting a pedicure!
I’m so blessed that I get to call you my friend!

  2. Haha! We just went to the zoo last weekend, and my husband refused to buy lunch there. I’d intended to take a bag of almonds with us – for the road trip and the zoo trip – but forgot in the chaos of Getting Out The Door. I’m pinning your snack post for future reference, though (assuming I will someday learn to get out the door without all the stress)!
