Workin’ For the Weekend

This weekend rocked, for no other reason than I had VERY little plans and nowhere to be. I made last minute decisions based on what I felt like doing in that moment, which NEVER happens.  It pretty much rocked.

Friday night, Husband and I had date night with Evan’s parents.  We fondued, we drank martinis, we sat in a loud bar and we took a shot like a boss.

  date night

I was going to run 6 miles at 6AM on Saturday, then watch my friends run the Kansas City Half Marathon.  When that alarm went off at 5, those martinis said “Go back to bed or you will be seeing me again.” So I did because guess what.  I’m NOT training for anything. Glorious. I slept for a few more hours then watched Jenny, Lindsey, Micah and some other friends blow past mile 7.  Great race, ladies!!

With Husband away at the Hawkeye game, Saturday involved this:

book on the beach {Except the beach looked more like my backyard, and my book was not in Spanish. Or so you think.}

And this: bubble-bath

Which was actually more like this: bubble bath

Saturday night I was planning on just vegging on the couch, but decided to take up my friend Kerry’s offer of watching movies together on her couch.  This girl can only take so many hours of being alone, apparently, so away I went.  It was super fun, and we watched two cute chick movies:

lola versuslife-happens {Kristen Johnson is huh-lariously awful in this movie}

Sunday morning I again was able to wake up leisurely. At 9, Kerry and I went for a 6 mile run through the trails of Overland Park.  The changing leaves are BEAUTIFUL right now, and I loved the crunching sound they made under our feet.  We followed up our run with a 60 minute Yoga for Runners session at Lululemon.  I <3 those peeps so much – I mean, they sell adorable, practical running and yoga clothes AND have free yoga classes. Plus they make the best signs and are amazing cheerleaders on race days.  lululemon race signs

I must admit, this little lady was tiiiiiight from marathon training so the poses were painful, but it was so needed and today I feel like a million bucks.  Ok, so a sore million bucks, but 2

Husband finally arrived home around noon, and we spent the afternoon buying bulbs for our front yard.  We went to The Grass Pad with the intention of buying a crap ton of tulip bulbs to line our front walkway, but after talking to a very honest and adorable seasoned employee, we opted for crocuses instead.  We’ve planted tulips two years in a row, and they only last a season.  Our new friend told us that crocuses keep coming back and will last for years.  Score!  He also recommended hyacinths, which I LOVE already because they look like flowery microphones and make me want to break out into song.  To the yard we went with our 500 bulbs and planted away!  PS – hacking away at the hard clay that tries to pass itself off for dirt will leave your shoulders screaming in the morning.  Upper body workout? Check!hyacinths

And the remainder of the evening was spent eating homemade Chocolate Covered Banana “Ice Cream” (recipe below that will blow your mind) and watching my Cardinals get their butts whooped by the Giants.  Seriously – can’t we just get this NLCS over with?  #12in12!!!

And today? Today is Day One of Tina’s Best Body Bootcamp!  I’ve been hearing how great BBB is for quite some time now from other bloggers, but didn’t want to start anything new while I was training for the Chicago Marathon.  Now that I am free, bring it on!!!  I can’t wait to share with you how it’s going.  I must admit…after reading the plan, I’m a little nervous. It’s a good nervous though, because I think this bootcamp just might be exactly what I’ve been looking for to get rid of my Cheez-It baby.  Wish me luck!

Chocolate Covered Banana Ice Cream

makes 2 servings

1 1/2 peeled medium bananas, sliced into coins and frozen until solid
1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder
2 teaspoons honey

Blend bananas in food processor until they are the consistency of soft serve ice cream (I had to add a splash of soy milk to get things moving). Blend in protein powder and honey, and transfer to a freezer container and freeze until solid.

*How insanely easy is this recipe?  It tastes and has the consistency of actual ice cream – no joke.  You can get really creative with it and add peanut butter, strawberries, nuts or spices.  The main ingredient that must stay the same is the banana.  The rest is up to you!! Who says dessert isn’t good for you?

What did you do this weekend that made you happy?

What is your favorite kind of ice cream?
