While in Cali this weekend, Big Sis started talking healthy snacks because she’s about to go on some hippy iceberg lettuce, dirt and organic water cleanse and she asked me the best question:
“Who are these people that can eat 8 almonds as a snack and feel full? Are you one of those people?”
Three things. One, the serving size for almonds is 23. Two, anyone who claims that 23 nuts, which is also described by many sources as “a handful”, fills them up is either an evil, gigantic almond-making mastermind with an underground lab or is an ant with little ant hands and a little ant belly. And three, no Big Sis, I am not one of those people.
I don’t like to overuse the term “snack connoisseur”, so I’ll just say I know my way around a tiny meal. So while Big Sis and I were chatting about healthy snack ideas, it reminded me of an old post, Five Healthy Snacks. Now. There are two good reasons to visit the past: to help talk about snacks and to go fetch the Rainbows you left by Elvis’ guitar-shaped pool when you last used your time machine. I mean, they mold to your feet like they were born there!
So, jump back to the old post and read up on five healthy snacks that won’t leave you needing a Snickers:
Hummus and carrots
Nuts and cottage cheese
Apples and peanut butter (or try my caramel apple dip)
Roasted vegetables and string cheese
Homemade protein bars
This. Just. In. It’s three and a half years after I wrote the original post and I am just now realizing there are actually six snacks on my Five Healthy Snacks list. There are six things on that list. Not five. 2013 was a confusing year to be alive. The struggle is real, friends.
What’s your favorite healthy snack?
Are you better at math than me?
